[01] MANHUNT FOR PASSARISAthens, 7 August 2001 (16:05 UTC+2)Police searches for the criminal Kostas Passaris, after the failed attempt to capture him, are going on all over the country. His Romanian accomplice, Mario Radoukan, whose fingerprints were also recovered form the apartment where the capture was attempted. The guard of the Athens Philharmonic building which is across the street from the Larissa train station, informed the police as he believes to have seen him and other members of his gang. He mentioned that on Saturday in the early morning hours on his way to get cigarettes a person approached him and told him to go to a pharmacy and get a prescription he handed him, for which the stranger would pay him 100.000 drs. The guard declined and the transaction did not take place. The guard noticed that the man was not alone, a few meters away there were three men. One of them was limping, and at some point dropped a weapon. Then the guard informed the police but when they arrived later there was no one to be seen. [02] GREEK FIRSTBrussels, 7 August 2001 (16:05 UTC+2)The greatest increase in traveler traffic in the European Union for 1999 was recorded in Greece. According to the evidence given by the European statistic organization Eurostat on Monday, the number of passengers on international flights to and from Greece increased, in 1999, in relation to 1998 by 13,7%. In total, the number of passengers in the 15 EU countries came to 374,8 million of which 183,6 million were traffic inside the EU, and 191,2 million were traffic outside the EU. Concerning airports, Heathrow is the one with the highest traffic, through which, in 1999, 54,8 million passengers went through. Next is Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam, while the former Greek airport (Ellinikon) comes in at 21st position. [03] BRITISH REPORT ON TERRORISM IN GREECEAthens, 7 August 2001 (16:05 UTC+2)British authorities turned a 200 page report in to the Ministry of Public Order, in which they analyze evidence on the movements of the terrorist organization "November 17th" since 1975. The above is mentioned in yesterday's edition of the "Nea" newspaper, which, referring to informed sources, says that there is enough evidence in the report to be used as proof and to charge certain persons with crimes. It is the first time - as it is pointed out in the publication - that the report can be based on objective evidence (DNA tests) and not on witness reports or shady confessions. It should be noted that the British authorities had primary sources on nothing but the murder of Brigadier Saunders. For the rest of the case they studied, they used secondary information, reports of the Greek Police on the evidence left behind by November17th. However, the British authorities insist that scientific tests be run on some of the evidence of the Greek Police.
