ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN WOMEN CONFERENCE
"A Journey in Faith," a conference addressing spiritual and social
issues of interest to Orthodox Christian women, will be held from 8 a.m. to
3:30 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 1997, at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee in the
city's downtown area. The occasion marks the first time a conference has
been held for Orthodox Christian women in Wisconsin.
Keynote speaker is Frederica Mathewes-Green. Mathewes-Green is an
author, nationally syndicated columnist, regular commentator on National
Public Radio and active in the pro-life movement. She is a convert and wife
of an Orthodox Christian Priest from the Antiochian jurisdiction.
The event primarily will consist of discussions relating to Orthodox
Christianity on spirituality, women saints, role of single women, religion
and youth and family issues. Emphasis will be placed on individuals being
members of the Orthodox Church as a result of faith and not ethnic heritage.
"A Journey in Faith," is being co-sponsored by five Orthodox Christian
parishes in greater Milwaukee, including the Annunciation Greek Orthodox,
Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox, Holy Trinity Russian, St.
Nicholas Antiochian Churches and St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral.
Cost is $30, per person; registration limited. For more information,
contact the conference co-chairpersons - Father James Dokos, Annunciation
Greek Orthodox Church, (414) 461-9400, or Cathleen Callen, (414) 442-1786.
