Bridging The Gap: A Conference on Greek-Turkish Relations International Conflict Research Group (ICRG) November 5-7, 1999 Yale University New Haven, CT

We write to invite you to "Bridging the Gap, a Conference on Greek-Turkish Relations" organized by The International Conflict Research Group (ICRG) at Yale University on the weekend of November 5-7, 1999. The conference will bring together distinguished scholars, politicians, artists and journalists from Greece, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Through panel discussions, we hope to achieve a balance between theoretical and practical approaches to the Greek-Turkish conflict and create an atmosphere that will stimulate constructive discussion with a focus on possibilities for conflict resolution. You as audience members will be able to participate in these discussions with your questions and comments.

The conference will open at 5.30 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 1999, with a keynote speech by Mr. Marc Grossman, United States Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs. It will close with a cocktail party on Saturday evening, November 6, during which you will be able to meet and converse with the participants.

Some of our guests include Alkis Kourkoulas (Greek journalist and writer for Kathimerini), Prof. Dr. Emre Kongar (Professor of Sociology at Yildiz University, Istanbul, Turkey, former Undersecretary of Ministry of Culture, writer, columnist), Prof. Dr. Norman Itzkowitz (Professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University), Stefanos Manos (independent member of the Greek Parliament), Can Dundar (Turkish researcher, journalist, TV producer and writer), and Theodoros Kouloumbis (member of the political think tank ELIAMEP in Greece). Also invited are the Greek and Turkish Ambassadors to the United States.
