On behalf of the World Congress on Information Technology 2004 (WCIT 2004), we are glad to announce the Michael Dertouzos Awards Competition for students and young researchers.

The World Congress on Information Technology is the top biennial event of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) and attracts senior corporate executives, distinguished academic professors and researchers, governmental officials and policy makers whose interaction and decisions shape the future of the ICT world. The Federation of Hellenic Information Technology and Communications Enterprises (SEPE) has been appointed by WITSA as the host of the 14th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT), which will be organized in Athens, Greece, from May 19th to May 21st 2004.

Students and young researchers (up to 32 years of age) are invited to submit abstracts of their work under the broad theme “IT with a human face” to the Michael Dertouzos Competition. The authors of the three best works, which will be evaluated by the WCIT Program Committee, will be awarded the following monetary prizes:

1st winner 15.000 Euros

2nd winner 9.000 Euros

3rd winner 6.000 Euros

In addition to the above all three winners will be awarded complimentary registration to the WCIT 2004, accommodation in Athens for the duration of the Congress and travel expenses. Each winner will be assigned a 10- minute slot, on the third day of the Congress to present their work to a global audience. Moreover, they will gain significant publicity as part of the WCIT communications strategy, which is enhanced by the sponsorships of CNN International and TIME magazine.

All students and young researchers submitting their work for consideration in the Dertouzos Awards will be eligible for the discounted registration fee of 600 Euros irrespective of the date of registration. They will also have the opportunity to present their work in the poster area of the congress venue. All abstracts will be published in a special edition that will be distributed to all WCIT 2004 attendees.

Participation details about the Michael Dertouzos Competition are posted on the congress website on www.worldcongress2004.org. Please note that the abstract submission deadline is March 26th, 2004.

We invite you to inform your network's members , colleagues and/or young researchers about this unique opportunity to present their work to the global ICT community, including prominent personalities from the academia, the business world and the government sector.

We will be glad to be informed about the ways of communicating the competition to members of your network . In case you would like to provide us with a mailing list of students and researchers we will be happy to forward competition material directly to them. We have sent you 3 posters by courier to place in various areas of your institution for the best information of your members. Moreover, we can send you color separations for publicizing the competition through your printed communication material (e.g. newsletters, reviews etc). Please inform us accordingly.

Should you need any further information or material about the WCIT 2004 and the Michael Dertouzos Competition do not hesitate to contact me. We are looking forward to your feedback and we thank you in advance for your kind cooperation.
