APL Financial Services (Overseas) Ltd. (AFSOL) is moving its software development operations from London to Nicosia, Cyprus. AFSOL develops software for modelling, risk management and real-time data handling. The software business developed from a high-performance computing research centre and develops leading-edge software for high-end systems.

AFSOL is a small company, allowing every individual to develop his/her skills to the full and to have substantial responsibility at an early stage.

We work mostly on (multi- and single processor) Digital Alphas running Unix and client machines running Windows NT/Linux. We also use multi-processor Tandem database engines. Most code is written in Fortran90/HPF, C++, C, SQL and Perl. CORBA is used to implement heterogeneous distributed systems.

We have a challenging opportunity for an outgoing individual, with Cypriot nationality, who will be responsible for our network of machines, comms links, backups etc. Furthermore he/she will be responsible for WEB services and their integration with server applications.

We expect a BSc in Computer Science or equivalent, proficiency in C and perl and thorough knowledge of Unix systems/networks. Interest in WEB applications and distributed systems is also desirable. This position will demand continuous improvement of skills, and as this position will require cooperation with international partners fluent English is essential.

The salary is negotiable and dependent on experience.

If you are interested in this position please contact Dr Adriaan Joubert at a.joubert@albourne.com.
