The challenge is to contribute to the development of systems that can absorb information from Member States authorities, vessels at sea and Commission databases in real time in order to estimate fishing effort, catches and stock levels in time to take appropriate action should there be a danger to sustainability. The research fellow will work as part of a small team and interact directly with authorities and scientists in Member States as well as DG-FISH. The ideal candidate has a PhD, with a numerate component. Relevant experience in the specific research topic outlined below is useful but not essential. The objective is to map and model migration routes across Africa, understand the political, economic and social driving forces and to see whether EU development or migration policies have any impact on the magnitude or direction of the flows.
