[19] REACTION TO DRAFT RESOLUTION RELATED TO THE SO-CALLED GENOCIDE ON ARMENIANS - SUSLU, DIRECTOR OF ATATURK RESEARCH CENTER: ''THESE FRIENDS SHOULD LOOK AT THEIR SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET''

BURSA, May 29 (A.A) - Prof. Azmi Suslu, the Director of the Prime Ministry Ataturk Research Center reacted on Friday to the draft resolution which was adopted at the French Parliament, related to the so-called genocide on Armenians and said, ''these friends should look at their skeletons in the closet.''

Speaking to the A.A correspondent, Suslu recalled that the so-called genocide allegations were brought onto the agenda in the US Congress and European countries especially during election periods. Noting that this wasn't the first time this issue was brought onto the agenda in France, Suslu said this was aimed at the vote potentials of the Armenians.

Pointing out that the Turkish-French friendly relations based on history could be damaged by such kind of methods, Suslu said, ''the issue was illuminated by the historians of Europe, the US and Russia.'' Suslu said there was no period in Turkish History of which to feel ashamed related to the minorities, adding ''they have been launching searches about the so- called genocide on Armenians for almost a century, but they couldn't find any evidence.''

Suslu said that the inhumane implementations of the French soldiers in the NATO Peace Forces to the Moslems in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and to the colonies in Asia and Africa weren't erased from the memories.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Enver Konukcu, a teaching staff member of the History Department at the Ataturk University said that the draft resolution adopted at the French Parliament won't bind Turkey.

Konukcu said this won't go beyond an allegation and that there was no historical evidence on the issue.

Konukcu requested the French Parliament to voice the genocide implemented on the Turkish people, adding that there were lots of documents related to the genocide Armenia implemented on Turks after 1915 in the Eastern Anatolia provinces which were under Russian occupation.

He said there were lots of mass graves in the region. The world knows it very well. ''We couldn't get a response to the requests which we made to the scientists abroad related to the excavations.''

Konukcu said they should come and see the facts. This draft resolution isn't based on a document or information.
