  • [01] Romanian President Emil Constantinescu met Hungarian Foreign minister Laszlo Kovacs

    Romanian President Emil Constantinescu met on Wednseday Hungarian Foreign Minister Laszlo Kovacs who is paying a two-day visit to Bucharest. Laszlo Kovacs said the situation of ethnic Hungarians in Romania has improved and he mentioned the determination to further improve it in the future. He also declared that, during a visit to the United States, the American officials appreciated the positive changes that occured in Romanian - Hungarian relations. Laszlo Kovacs also expressed his opinion that Romanian - Hungarian ties are on a developing course and the two countries should support each other in the race for their integration in the Euro-Atlantic structures.     [02] Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea on a visit to Cluj-Napoca

    Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea paid a visit to Cluj-Napoca, a town in Central Romania, for talks with representatives in the majority coalition. He declared that inter-ethnic and inter-confessional tensions as well as difficulties in implimentation of reform emerging in the Cluj county were due to the fact that the current opposition won the elections for local and county administration. The prime minister visited the Babes- Boliay University where he had talks with the Senate of this higher education institute. Victor Ciorbea met also the staff of te Fourth Transylvania Army.     [03] A British guest in Romania

    British Secretary of State for the armed forces John Reed is paying a two- day visit Romania. In an interview with the BBC, Mr Reed said that military relations with Romania are the strongest Britain had in the region. He also said that he will convey to Romanian officials the message that NATO doors remain open. RRI-RADOR, October 9

    [04] Romanian diplomacy in action

    The second summit of heads of states and government of the Council of Europe Member States will be held in Strasbourg on October 10-11. Romanian delegaton will be headed by President Emil Constantinescu. Te summit is expected t adpt a declaration ad a plan of actionfor the consolidation of democratic stability within the member states.

    A Romanian Foreign Ministry spokesman announced at the weekly press conference, held today, that Romanian Foreign Minister Adrian Severin will pay an official visit to South Africa between October 14-16.

    The Romanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said that, between October 9-13, a MPs delegation of the Western Europe Organisation will visit Romania for working out a report on bilateral ties.

    On October 9-10, Romania will be visited by Jose Mauricio Bustani, Director General of the Organisation for banning chemical weapons in the Hague. This is the first visit Mr. Bustani is paying to a state which is art of the Convention on chemical weapons. RRI-RADOR, October 9
