JUNE 6 1997 DAY
NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA
BANJALUKA - The President of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic talked
in Banjaluka with the High Representative for Civilian Affairs to RS and
Bosnia and Hercegovina (B&H), Carl Bildt, about the importance of the
conclusions of the session of the Committee for Implementation of the
Dayton Agreement, which was held in Sintra. Some of the conclusions reached
in Sintra must be implemented urgently, while some can wait for a while,
stated President Plavsic after the meeting. She assessed that some of the
conclusions would have been realised faster if the international economic
aid was distributed to RS. The meeting with President Plavsic represents
the sequel to a very productive talks held in Sintra. This way, 'a new
phase of the implementation of the Dayton Agreement is started', so it is
very important that Republika Srpska (RS) and the Federation of Bosnia and
Hercegovina (FB&H) adhere to these conclusions', said the High
Representative, Carl Bildt.
SARAJEVO - A session of the Committee of National Coordinators of the
Central European Initiative (CEI) member states is continued at the Holiday
Inn Hotel in Sarajevo, today. As was announced, an informal meeting of the
ministers of foreign affairs of the CEI member states will also take place.
The meeting will be presided over by the foreign minister in the Council of
Ministers of Bosnia and Hercegovina, Jadranko Prlic.
SARAJEVO - Today and tomorrow, the SFOR units are to perform a routine
military drill in the Srbinye and Gorazde areas, says an announcement
issued by the SFOR. Further, a great number of helicopters and armoured
vehicles will be in use on the ground during the drill.
HAMBURG - Western diplomats and military strategists headed by the NATO
commander for Europe, George Joulwan, are working on the developing a
scenario for a long-term presence of the alliance in RS and the Federation
of B&H, maintains the German magazine 'Spiegel'. The magazine assesses that
there is not a single sign of reconciliation between the Serbs, Croats and
Muslims. This is what induced the ministers of foreign affairs of the NATO
member states to threaten them with refusing to give them the aid for the
reconstruction of the country
BERLIN - If the international community's pressures upon the former waring
parties in the Bosnia and Hercegovina (B&H) become ineffective, then there
is only one solution - the Dayton accord 2 as an agreement on the definite
division of B&H. This would be the most realistic scenario for her future,
concludes the German paper 'Sueddeutsche Zeitung'. 'All of the
international community's threats and ultimatums presented to the former
foes in the B&H for the last 18 months are in vain, because the Dayton
Agreement has yet to be implemented in practice', says the paper's
commentator, Peter Winsch. He points out that the West should take tougher
measures against those not wanting to implement the Dayton Agreement fully.
