NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BRUSSELS - The Secretary General of NATO Javier Solana will visit B&H, the day after NATO have arrested two Bosnian Croats accused for war crimes, reported yesterday NATO's officials. According to him, Solana will in Sarajevo talk with commanders of SFOR working in the field, and with High Representative of the International Community in B&H Carlos Westendorp.

DOBOJ - Holiday of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker is being solemnly celebrated in all orthodox churches in the region of municipality of Doboj and Ozren, and in the Temple of "Sts. Peter and Paul" in Doboj, with the presence of great number of believers, the morning liturgy was performed. In the monastery of "St.Nicholas" in Petrovo, at Ozren, on the occasion of 800 hundred years of existence, its Patron Saint's day and the patron St. Nicholas are being celebrated.

PALE - At the last continuation of Constitutive Session of Municipal Board Pale Ljiljana Lalovic was appointed secretary of Steering Board, Stanislav Sljivic was appointed as Secretary for economy, budget and general administration, and for Secretary of the Secretariat for veteran's issues and public activities was appointed Niko Batinic.

SARAJEVO - The mayor of Serbian Sarajevo Mirko Sarovic solemnly opened last night The Third Festival of one actor "Monodrama of Srpska", which is being held from 18th to 22th December in the premises of Serbian National University in Lukavica. "It all began in Hadzici in 1995., with The First Festival of Monodrama, which paved the way for this cultural manifestation and brought to the third review of theatrical creative work" - reminded Sarovic.

JAHORINA - In The Sixth Round of The Second International Grand Master's Chess Tournament "Jahorina '97.", which was played last night in the hotel "Bistrica", only the grand master Ivan Ivanisevic in the game with a colleague Zlatko Ilincic scored a victory, while the other games were finished with draws.

BANJALUKA - The president of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic announced that the Constitutive Session of the National Assembly will be most probably held on December 27., and a new mandate of the Government should announce the structure of its Cabinet until January 20. Mrs Plavsic has emphasised this after the meeting with the Secretary General of NATO Javier Solana in Banjaluka.

BELGRADE - The Senator of RS Kosta Cavoski stated for SRNA that the High Representative Carlos Westendorp with the proclamation of the Law on Citizenship "has once more violated the Dayton Agreement", according to which "it is not in any way anticipated that the High Representative has any legislative activity". Mr Cavoski pointed out that only the fact that Westendorp has in some way " usurped the authority and started to pass laws" is showing that he is trying to have RS under protectorate, and to introduce some kind of occupation instead of peace activity of SFOR.

SREBRENICA - The Municipal Board of Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) of Srebrenica and 12 board members of this party do not accept the implementation of the local elections because of "irregularities, violating democratic principles and not accepting founded complaints on frauds done by Muslim side". According to the president of Serbian Democratic Party from Srebrenica Momcilo Cvjetinovic, " more than 3,000 irregular votes brought a victory to Coalition for United and Democratic B&H". SDS decided to forward a letter to RS president Biljana Plavsic, and ask for her opinion on the implementation of the local elections in Srebrenica, considering the fact that she is familiar with mentioned irregularities.

PRIJEDOR - The representatives of the Municipal Assembly (SO) of Prijedor considered the possibility of introducing the a function of the second vice- president of SO, which would go to Coalition for United and Democratic B&H. This proposal was given by Serbian Democratic Party (SDS), and the goal is realising the election conditions about participation of parties in the authority.

BIJELJINA - The leadership of RS Democratic Party (DS) thinks that maintaining of current situation with, as it is cited in the announcement, "illegal municipal functionaries" is harming interest of citizens. The representatives of DS talked yesterday with the deputy of the High Representative Hans Schumacher about the situation in Bijeljina, after the constituting of the municipal authorities.

DOBOJ - Leaving the duty of Commander of Nordic-Poland Brigade the Danish General Karsten Miller expressed his pleasure because " more strong SFOR's action in arresting the suspects for war crimes is going to follow" and acclaimed the arresting of two Croats in Vitez. At the press-conference he assessed as a positive one the statement of the American president Bill Clinton that USA would keep its forces in RS and B&H Federation even after the of mandate of SFOR has expired in June of the next year.

DOBOJ - The SFOR Command in Doboj announced that in the last few days in the municipality of Maglaj, in the settlement Bocinja in the territory of B&H Federation (FB&H), the police have arrested "several Mujahideen fighters". Previous Commander of Nordic-Poland Brigade of SFOR General Karsten Miller stated precisely at the a press-conference that the mercenaries from Islamic countries, "the fighters of Jihad", were arrested by the policemen from the federal Ministry of Internal Affairs. He emphasised that he is sure that in the area of Bocinja there are still more Mujahideen fighters, but he not able to give data on eventual continuation of the action, nor he cited the precise number of arrested persons.

DOBOJ - Coming to B&H SFOR disposed of data on "six to eight millions of inactivated mines", while according to last data, after voluminous actions, that number is between 750,000 and 1 million. These data were presented at the press-conference in Doboj by the press-officer of SFOR from the base "Eagle" in Tuzla Biorno Sorensen and added that SFOR is expecting complete clearing of mines.

BELGRADE - We are going to alarm world's "green" public, international institutions and different initiatives to react at the fact that in 1995 the NATO forces have bombed RS with missiles containing weakened uranium, stated for SRNA Branka Jovanovic, a member of "New Green Party". MRS Jovanovic reminded that the Belgrade Institute for Nuclear Sciences "Vinca" has confirmed in October that "during the bombing of RS weakened uranium- high toxic substance has been used, i.e. radioactive missiles which is crime against humaneness".

BELGRADE - The president of Belgrade Committee for gathering data on crimes against humaneness and international right Zoran Stojanovic confirmed that the Committee is intensively working on researching of consequences of NATO bombing in RS, but for time being he can not announce data in the public. "We are making the ninth report on bombing of RS with the missiles filled with weakened uranium, which should be adopted by the Committee in the mid-January of the next year, in order to send it later to Federal Government", stated Stojanovic for SRNA.

BELGRADE - The military commentator Miroslav Lazanski is acclaiming the decision of the USA president Bill Clinton about the extending the mandate of American Troops in B&H, but he is warning that it is "naive to think that the peace forcers will by force try to make Bosnia unitary". In his statement for SRNA Lazanski assessed that it is "noble intention of Clinton, but it for it to realise be fulfilled quickly".

SREBRENICA - The RS Government paid in the first tranche of help, in amount of 1 million dinars, to the building enterprise "Radnik" from Srebrenica for rehabilitation of Factory of concrete elements for factory halls, which is a part of this enterprise. As if was said in "Radnik", the funds are intended for outside protection of buildings, replacement of complete roofing construction of 4,000 square meters and glassing of openings, and the first phase will include installing electrical power, installing transformators and getting a cement base with following mechanism ready for use.
