    [01] Grossman - Cyprus

Washington, Jan 13 (CNA) -- The US continues to support the goal of establishing a bizonal, bicommunal federation in Cyprus and expects the substantive talks, which began in New York last month, to lead to this solution.

Assistant Secretary of State Marc Grossman gave his full backing to the resumption of bicommunal contacts, which the illegal regime in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus halted two years ago because of the European Union stance on Cyprus' application for accession.

[02] Iranian Ambassador - Cultural Week

Nicosia, Jan 13 (CNA) -- The Iranian Cultural Week organised in Nicosia by the Iranian Embassy from 13 - 18 January will contribute to the further strengthening of bilateral relations between Cyprus and Iran, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Bahman Agharazi told CNA today.

The cultural week, which will be inaugurated today by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides on behalf of the President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides, include visual arts exhibitions, traditional music and Iranian film shows.

    [03] Britain - Military Exercises

Nicosia Jan 13 (CNA) -- Britain and Cyprus are set to sign Friday a memorandum of understanding relating to the location of military exercises British troops conduct on the island.

The memorandum provides for an alternative site for the exercises in Kalo Horio, in the southeastern part of the island, instead of the environmentally sensitive area of Akamas, on the northwestern tip.

[04] Greek House President - Visit

Nicosia Jan 13 (CNA) -- The Turkish occupied municipality of Morphou will declare the President of the Greek Parliament Apostolos Kaklamanis honorary citizen.

Kaklamanis, who arrives here Friday to attend a special ceremony hosted by the municipality, will also have meetings with President Glafcos Clerides, his Cypriot counterpart House President Spyros Kyprianou and Defence Minister Socrates Hasikos.

[05] New Colombian Ambassador - Credentials

Nicosia, Jan 13 (CNA) -- Colombia fully supports the reunification of Cyprus and a settlement of its political problem within the UN framework and Cyprus' accession to the European Union.

Presenting his credentials to President Glafcos Clerides as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, non-resident, Manuel Jose Bonett Locarno, also expressed his government's wishes "to maintain, strengthen and promote the good relations which so happily have existed between Colombia and the Republic of Cyprus".
