Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides, who is being
treated at a private clinic in Nicosia after undergoing surgery to remove a
polyp from his large intestine, is in a "perfect post-operation condition",
according to one of his personal physicians, Dr. Agis Syrimis.
Dr. Syrimis told CNA that the President would probably be able to return to
his duties on Monday, from his room at the clinic, adding that not many
visits would be permitted today, as the President needs rest.

Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) - Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktash, put through a
telephone call this morning to the private clinic, in which President
Clerides is being treated after undergoing surgery to remove a polyp from
his large intestine.
Government Spokesman, Michalis Papapetrou, said that the President was
sleeping at the time and that Denktash would call back later, probably "to
wish the President a speedy recovery".

Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) - Cyprus Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, said
today that political will is necessary to find a solution for Cyprus,
divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied the northern third of
the island.
Speaking today after visiting President Glafcos Clerides, who is being
treated at a private clinic after undergoing surgery to remove a polyp from
his large intestine, Kasoulides said that a settlement must be in the
context of UN resolutions, as opposed to any demands aiming not at a
solution but at the consolidation of the present division of the island.

Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides was well today,
according to associates, but his family said he was still in pain, after
the surgery he underwent to remove a polyp from his large intestine.
Acting President of the Republic and House of Representatives President,
Spyros Kyprianou, said the President was "very well" and in a good mood,
and expressed certainty that he would recuperate.

Nicosia, May 6 (CNA) - The post-operation condition of Cyprus President
Glafcos Clerides, who underwent surgery to remove a polyp from his large
intestine, is developing smoothly and "the whole condition is satisfactory",
according to a medical press release, read out to reporters this afternoon
by doctor Joseph Kasios.
The press release states that "the post-operation course of the President
is developing smoothly, the vital points are stable, and today he got up
and sat in a chair, and spoke with his family and his doctors".
