    Nicosia, Jun 12 (CNA) -- Vassos Lyssarides was elected Sunday unopposed president of the Social Democrats Movement at the first electoral conference the party has staged since it was formed in late February.

    Yiannakis Omirou was elected, also unopposed, to the post of deputy party president.

    [02] Cyprus Foreign Minister - EU - IGC

    Nicosia, Jun 12 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides leaves Tuesday for Luxembourg to participate in the Intergovernmental Conference of the European Union.

    During his stay in Luxembourg the Cypriot will have a series of bilateral meetings with European counterparts, an official press release said.

    Nicosia, Jun 12 (CNA) -- According to the Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport, the weather forecast for Cyprus is:

    Tuesday and wednesday : 13/06/2000 to 14/06/2000

    Weather fine and hot. Winds light to moderate, northerly during nightime and mornings, and southeasterly to southwesterly in the afternoon.

    Maximum temperature 37C inland, 34C south coast, 31C west coast. Minimum temperature 24C, inland and south coast, 21C west coast.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday 15/06/2000 to 16/06/2000

    The weather will continue fine and hot and on Friday the temperature and mainly the minimum one will note a small decrease.

    [04] President Clerides - Holger

    Nicosia, Jun 12 (CNA) -- Outgoing UN Secretary General's acting special representative James Holger paid today a farewell visit to President Glafcos Clerides and expressed the view that "efforts are on the way" to solve the Cyprus problem.

    Speaking to the press after the meting, Holger said he was sad to leave the island, pointing out he has friends both in the government-controlled and the Turkish-occupied areas and stressed that "the people of Cyprus deserve a better future, not a situation of uncertainty".
