    [01] Cyprus - Ireland - Tourism

    Nicosia, Aug 3 (CNA) - Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister, Nicos Rolandis, met yesterday with Cyprus' Ambassador in Dublin, Nicos Emiliou, with whom he discussed ways to promote tourism to Cyprus from Ireland.

    Statistics indicate that arrivals from this country during the first six months of the year increased by 23%, compared to the same period last year, while tourists are expected to reach 40.000 by the end of the year. CNA/RG/GP/2000

    Nicosia, Aug 03 (CNA) -- According to the Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport, the weather forecast for Cyprus is:

    Friday and Saturday: 04/08/2000 to 05/08/2000

    The weather will be mainly fine. Winds will be westerly to northwesterly light to moderate.

    The temperature will be 36 C maximum and 23 C minimum inland, and 34 C maximum and 23 C minimum along the coasts.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 06/08/2000 to 07/08/2000

    The weather will remain mainly fine. A small increase in temperatures is expected.

    Sea Temperature: 26C



    [03] President Clerides - UN Adviser - Talks

    Geneva, Aug 3 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides met here today for about an hour with the UN chief's Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, in the context of UN-led proximity talks on the Cyprus problem.

    President Clerides said after the meeting that his last meeting with de Soto, before returning to the island on Saturday, August 5, would be held tomorrow morning.



    [04] Chinese Ambassador - Interview

    by Maria Myles Nicosia, Aug 3 (CNA) -- China continues to back a just and reasonable settlement in Cyprus on the basis of UN resolutions, its outgoing Ambassador Yin Zuojin has said, stressing at the same time that Beijing's position is founded on the respect of the independence, sovereignty and terriotial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus and China's support for the UN Secretary-General's good offices mission.

    In an interview with CNA, before leaving after a four-year term in office, Zuojin said bilateral ties have developed to a great extent over the past few years in all sectors, but acknowledged there is more room for improvement, especially in tourism, trade and the economy.
