[03] Foreign Minister - EU - US
Nicosia, Mar 8 (CNA) - Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has
welcomed statements by the current European Union (EU) presidency to the
effect that the absence of a solution to the Cyprus problem is not going to
be an obstacle to the country's accession and that the EU cannot act as a
mediator in the effort towards a settlement.
"We consider the statement made by Anna Lindh on behalf of the EU as very
positive in the sense that the EU supports the efforts of the UN Secretary-
General and is also reminding everybody that the solution of the Cyprus
problem is not a precondition to the accession of Cyprus," Kasoulides told
journalists here today.
