[01] Greek Americans - Annual conference
Washington, Jun 6 (CNA) - The 12th annual conference of the International
Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) got underway in
Washington yesterday to discuss how Greek Americans can become more
effective in the efforts for a settlement in Cyprus and amid calls for
unity and commitment to this end.
Speaking to some 100 delegates from six countries, US ambassador in Nicosia
Donald Bandler and State Department coordinator for Cyprus Thomas Weston
expressed disappointment over the Turkish Cypriot leader's refusal to
participate in the UN-led proximity talks but assured that a solution on
the island remains a priority for the new US administration.

[02] National Council - Meeting - New composition
Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) - President Glafcos Clerides has called a meeting of
the National Council on June 18, which will for the first time convene in
its new composition, with representatives of all eight parties that managed
to enter the House of Representatives in the May 27 elections.
Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou today announced that the
President's top advisory body on the Cyprus issue will discuss developments
in the effort to reach a settlement on the island as well as the Republic's
course for European Union accession.

[03] President Clerides - Austrian representative - EU
Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) -- Austria's Special Representative for the European
Union enlargement Erhard Busek expressed here today his country's
satisfaction with the EU enlargement process, saying it "is now possible"
and it is up to the EU "to decide how we can proceed".
Speaking to CNA after he was received by President Glafcos Clerides, Busek
said that during their meeting the Cyprus question was discussed and
pointed out the President's "very positive approach for the future".
