    Cypriot MPs brief US Congressmen

    Washington, Jun 12 (CNA) -- A parliamentary delegation, led by Foreign Affairs Committee President Nicos Anastasiades, has briefed US Congressmen and US administration officials about the latest developments in Cyprus with regard to the peace effort and the country's European Union accession course.

    Senators and Congressmen who talked to the delegation said there is now a unique opportunity for a solution and stressed the need for negotiations in good faith.

    Clerides reassures Bush he is determined to reach settlement

    Nicosia, Jun 12 (CNA) - Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said today that a message from President Glafcos Clerides, handed to US President George Bush by ruling Democratic Rally President Nicos Anastasiades, underlines the determination of the Greek Cypriot side to show flexibility in order to reach an acceptable Cyprus settlement.

    Papapetrou said the written message also underscores Turkish threats and the irreversible accession course of Cyprus to the European Union.

    Nicosia, Jun 12 (CNA) - The Council of Ministers has launched an in depth study of a House of Representatives report, released last week, regarding developments at the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) during the years 1999 and 2000. This morning, the cabinet appointed a committee that will present an analysis of the House conclusions within a fortnight.

    Athens, Jun 12 (CNA) - Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs George Papandreou said today that the new increase of Turkish troops in the areas of Cyprus Turkey has been occupying since its 1974 invasion is "definitely a negative fact and that is why we are asking for a solution to the Cyprus problem".
