United Nations, Aug 10 (CNA) -- Cyprus Permanent Representative to the UN, Andreas Mavroyiannis, in a letter to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan strongly protests numerous violations of the Nicosia Flight Information Region (FIR) and the national airspace of the Republic of Cyprus by Turkish military aircraft.

In his letter, which he asks to be circulated as a document of the General Assembly and of the Security Council, Mavroyiannis stresses that it is with great disappointment Cyprus witnesses Turkey opting to consolidate division and insecurity, instead of responding positively to the confidence-building measures recently proposed by the Government of Cyprus.
