    United Nations, Aug 11 (CNA) -- In a letter to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Cyprus Charge d' affaires to the United Nations Andreas Hadjichrysanthou informs him about the measures the government of the Republic of Cyprus announced on July 30, 2004 regarding the movement of public-use vehicles for Turkish Cypriots to the government controlled areas, as well as the movement of goods and the development of contacts and economic relations between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

    Cyprus House President to attend Olympic Games opening ceremony

    Nicosia, Aug 11 (CNA) -- Cyprus House President Demetris Christofias flew today to Athens, where he will attend the Olympic Games opening ceremony Friday night, at the invitation of the Cyprus Olympic Committee President Kikis Lazarides.

    It was earlier announced that President Tassos Papadopoulos will also travel to Athens to attend the Olympic Games opening ceremony.

    Famagusta refugees demand return to their hometown

    Nicosia, Aug 11 (CNA) -- Famagusta refugees have demanded the return of their hometown Famagusta, under Turkish occupation since 1974, to its lawful residents.

    The Famagusta Refugee Movement put out its demand in letters addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the European Commission.

    The Movemnet organised today a demonstartion outside the offices of the European Commission Representation in Nicosia, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Famagusta's occupation by the Turkish invasion army in 1974.

    Relatives express reserved optimism over UNSG renewed missing initiative

    Nicosia, Aug 10 (CNA) --- President of the Pancyprian Relatives Committee of Missing Persons and Undeclared Prisoners Nicos Theodosiou has welcomed with reserved optimism a letter by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, regarding the humanitarian issue of missing persons.

    According to an official press release, in his letter to President Papadopoulos, Annan repeats his proposals on the issue, which he had submitted in December 2003, as well as new proposals, incorporating in this way the common understanding that has been unofficially reached between the two sides for quite a long time now.
