  • [01] AKEL - GAZA VISIT

A multi-party delegation from the left-wing AKEL party intends to visit the Palestinian Territories and Israel on Monday, party spokesman Andros Kyprianou has said. Heads of the delegation are MP Skevi Koukouma and Christos Christofides, General Secretary of AKEL youth branch EDON, who will carry a message of peace that the war in Gaza must stop, Kyprianou added.

This offensive is not just against Hamas. Today most of the victims are children about 300 - and non combatants and it is an affront to humanity to allow the murder of innocent children for the sake of political or other expediencies, he stressed. Kyprianou expressed regret that the leadership of Hamas and of Israel has not accepted the Security Council proposal for a ceasefire. The war must end as soon as possible to allow peace efforts to yield results, he added.

The AKEL delegation will visit Israel and the Palestinian Territories on Monday and Tuesday to meet parties, womens associations, youth organisations while attempts are underway to meet representatives of the Palestinian Authority. The message we want to convey is that this war must end. We support efforts by those who wish for peace and oppose war. We should all protect and work on the basis of international law and the UN Charter if we want to have a better future with peace, security and stability for everybody and not selectively, Kyprianou said.
