House President Spyros Kyprianou called for a minute' s silence in memory of those who died in defence of democratic principles. He also called for an investigation into the events that led to the coup and the invasion, so that the younger generation may know what happened. [02] Schussel: Cyprus remains among the priorities of the EU Austrian Presidency.The Austrian Presidency of the European Union will pursue its efforts for the resumption of UN led peace talks in Cyprus, stated yesterday in Strasbourg the Austrian Foreign Minister Mr. Wolfgang Schussel stated yesterday in Strasbourg.Mr. Schussel, who was presenting the Austrian Presidency' s programme before the European Parliament in his capacity as President in Office of the European Council, stressed that the proposal for the participation of the Turkish Cypriots in the delegation that carries out accession negotiations remains on the table, and noted that their participation would greatly facilitate the peace process in Cyprus. The Austrian Minister also pointed out that the Cyprus issue is one of the priorities of the EU Austrian Presidency. [03] Hannay, Miller to visit CyprusThe Austrian European Union Presidency' s Representative on Cyprus Sir David Hannay arrives on the island on July 21, the British High Commissioner announced yesterday after a meeting with President Clerides.He said that Sir David's agenda includes the issue of the resumption of intercommunal dialogue, Cyprus' s EU accession process as well as the S-300 missiles issue. Moreover,the Government Spokesman announced yesterday the arrival in Cyprus of US State Department's Coordinator Thomas Miller on July 24. Mr. Miller's visit is aimed at helping the two sides to resume the stalled peace talks. [04] British Parliamentarians reiterate support for Cyprus' struggleThe Cyprus Federation of Great Britain organised last night an open discussion on Cyprus in the House of Commons to condemn the 1974 coup that prompted the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.The event,which was attended by a great number of deputies representing Britain's three biggest political parties, aimed at reminding that Cyprus seeks a fair solution to its problem and at supporting a permanent safeguard for the consolidation of peace on the island. The Members of the Parliament stressed their continuous support to Cyprus' struggle for a just settlement as well as to Cyprus' EU accession course, noting that the country's accession to the EU is not conditional on Turkey's veto.
