[01] Turkish Cypriot delegation holding contacts in Ankara

According to TRT (18:00 hours, 30.10.96) Mustafa Kalemli, speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), has said that the Assembly is extremely sensitive and in full unison with regards to the Cyprus issue.

Kalemli received the Turkish Cypriot "parliamentary" delegation headed by Onur Borman, so-called head of the Planning and Budget Committee of the pseudo-Assembly. At the meeting, Kalemli said that there are no differences of views among the political parties regarding the Cyprus issue.

"I would like you to be at rest with regards to this issue. Meanwhile, the Turkish Cypriot Assembly should fulfill its duties while we fulfill ours. At the end we will show to the entire world that we are united on this issue, this cause. There are no differences of views. Decisions that have not met the approval of the `TRNC' cannot be implemented with regards to the solution of this issue", he said.

Borman stated that the attention the TGNA shows to Cyprus strengthens the Turkish Cypriots and provides them with the determination to struggle for their "cause".

The Turkish Cypriot delegation later called on Ertan Yurek, president of the Assembly Planning and Budget Committee and conferred with him for some time. The delegation was also received by State Minister Abdullah Gul. At the meeting, Gul said that Turkey will continue to do all it can for the "TRNC". He stressed the importance of developing the Turkish Cypriot economy in addition to defending the "TRNC" at international platforms. Pointing out that a program is being prepared on the solution of the pseudostate's problems, Gul added that the Prime Minister of Turkey and the so-called Prime Minister of the pseudostate will soon sign the protocol on this program.

[02] The Cyprus problem causes the Turkish Cypriot community to go through difficult days

ORTAM (31.10.96) reports that the New Cyprus Party (NCP) of Alpay Durduran has celebrated the 7th anniversary of its establishment. In his message, the General Secretary of the New Cyprus Party, Rasih Keskiner, has said that the Turkish Cypriot community is going through difficult days and that it is the Cyprus problem that is the reason for this.

The message further says that the Turkish Cypriot community is anxious over the fact that it has become a minority in its own "country". (MY)
