[01] Denktash addresses arrival ceremony for TAF aircraft

According to illegal Bayrak radio (11:30 hours, 19.11.98) six Turkish air Force (TAF) warplanes have arrived in the occupied area of Cyprus within the framework of the Toros-2 98 maneuvers. Rauf Denktash and others were briefed by Colonel Burhan Denizkaya and Group Captain Yilmaz Korucuoglu at the occupied Lefkoniko airport before the planes landed.

According to a report by illegal BRT correspondent, Denktash issued a statement after the briefing.

Alleging that the guarantee agreement gives Turkey the right of defense, Denktash said: ``Consequently, we have the right to take the necessary measures with motherland Turkey against the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo, which seems to spread its rule by deploying missiles in occupied territories''. Denktash explained that nobody should have a doubt that these measures have already been taken and will continue to be taken in the future as well. Denktash called on President Clerides to give up the efforts at armament.

Addressing President Clerides in his statement, Denktash said: ``In the past 35 years, you have managed to create an increasingly stronger TRNC by your efforts at deploying missiles, granting Greece bases in Cyprus, hiding behind a title that you know is fake, trying to secure the deeds to the whole of Cyprus, and portraying the Turkish Cypriot as a minority to the whole world''. Calling on President Clerides to give up this course of action and discuss on how to build a bridge by sitting at the table as ``two states'', Denktash added: ``The only alternative left is to continue in this way if you will not make such a move. This, however, does not give you the right to eliminate us.''

Recalling a politician´s remarks that a strong Cyprus will join the EU, Denktash said: ``I do not know whether he is aware of my weight. I, however, weigh 65.195 million. No force other than Turkey can make me join the EU.''

Calling on the Turkish Cypriots to remain calm and have confidence in their future, Denktash expressed gratitude to Turkey, adding that the support extended by Turkey will continue.

The six TAF warplanes landed at the occupied Lefkoniko airport after the briefing.

Addressing the pilots, Denktash said: ``You have brought with yourself peace and security. This is your place, and you are always welcome to come.''

[02] Denktash on Greek Cypriot armament efforts

According to Anatolia Agency (12:13 hours, 19.11.98) Rauf Denktash claimed on Wednesday that the Greek Cypriot side acted in such a way which upsets the Lausanne balance that is established on Cyprus by the 1960 Agreement, adding that ``if the Greek Cypriots take one step, we will take ten steps.''

Denktash said: ``I hope the Greek Cypriots will understand that the armament efforts they started to demoralize Turkish Cypriot people won´t bring them to anywhere''. And he further claimed:

``The Greek Cypriots divided the island into two, but they have not become wiser. They still believe that they will solve the issue by claiming that Turkey is an occupier state. Turkey did not invade the island, on the contrary she prevented the invasion of the island by the Greek Cypriot side. They think that they will do the things they could not do till today by means of the EU, but they are mistaken. If the Greek Cypriot side integrates with the EU, we will integrate with Turkey''.

[03] Censure motions placed on agenda with 311 in favour

According to TRT Television network (18:00 hours, 19.11.98) the voting on whether or not to place on the agenda the interpellation motions submitted against Turkish Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz and State Minister Gunes Taner was adopted by 311 votes in favour, 213 votes against. In this way, discussions will be held on the interpellation motions on 23 November, and the vote of confidence will be held on 25 November.

    [04] Denktash meets Madden

According to KIBRIS (20.11.98) Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash had a meeting yesterday with British High Commissioner to Cyprus, David Madden. The meeting took place at the British High Commission over luncheon. There was no statement at the end of the meeting. (MY)

[05] 2000-year old tomb unearthed in the occupied village of Mora

According to KIBRIS (20.11.98) a 2000-year old tomb belonging to the Hellenistic period has been unearthed in the occupied village of Mora.

Excavations were carried out by archaeologists Figen Caner and Ozlem Mertkan. During the excavations the two archaeologists were able to unearth six remains.

The excavations will be completed today. (MY)

[06] Meeting to protest Italy´s stance

According to KIBRIS (20.11.98), the association of the fascist Idealist Hearth Organization in the occupied area is to organize a protest march tomorrow over Italy´s stance against the leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party Abdullah Ocalan who is in Italy seeking political asylum. The chairman of the association Osman Colak, in a written statement yesterday, said that the protest meeting branded ``IF YOU DO NOT GIVE HIM WE COME AND TAKE HIM'' will take place tomorrow at 10:00 a clock in the occupied part of Nicosia.

Meanwhile, the Consumers Association of the pseudostate has called on consumers to boycott Italian products because Italy protects Abdullah Ocalan. The chairman of the association, Hasan Yilmaz Isik, in his statement said that the Italian government instead of extraditing Ocalan to Turkey is trying to protect him, thus becoming a collaborator of his crimes and taking upon itself the crimes committed by Ocalan. He said that this was treason committed against the democracy.

Stating that as result of this stance they have decided to impose a boycott on goods imported from Italy Hasan Yilmaz warned consumers not to use Italian goods.

Hasan Yilmaz asked the pseudo-government to ban imports of Italian goods to the pseudostate. (MY)

[07] 200 ``experts'' will be arriving in the occupied area

According to KIBRIS (20.11.98) the second ``International Cyprus Research Congress'' will be held between 24-27 November at the so-called East Mediterranean University. KIBRIS reports that 200 experts from 23 countries will be taking part in the congress. It will be held in Turkish and in English and in its 38 sessions 156 papers will be presented.

The chairman of the research center Ismail Bozkurt will make the opening speech. Turkish Cypriot leader Denktash and the so-called Turkish envoy Ertugrul Apakan will address the congress.

The Cyprus problem, history literature, folk art, economy, culture, arts, history of arts are some of the topics that will be discussed at the congress. (MY)

[08] There are 120,759 voters in the occupied area

According to KIBRIS (20.11.98) the so-called Supreme Election Council has announced that the total number of ``voters'' who have the right to vote in the forthcoming ``elections'' is 120,759.

The so-called chairman of the ``Supreme Election Council'' Salih Dayi said that there are 37,544 voters in occupied Nicosia, 31,732 in occupied Famagusta, 21,541 in occupied Kyrenia, 17,571 in occupied Morphou and 12, 371 in occupied Trikomo.

During last June´s 1998 so-called local elections there were 118,833 ``registered'' voters. (MY)

[09] Another ``coalition'' on the horizon

According to KIBRIS (20.11.98), while the political parties continue their campaign incessantly regarding the so-called 6 December general elections, the second poll carried out by the COMAR showed that no party will be able to secure an absolute majority to form a ``government''

According to the Comar results, the ``TRNC voters'' still prefer to vote for a mixed list rather than separate party lists and as a result of this the outcome will be again a ``coalition''. That is, again there is ``coalition'' on the horizon. However, says the paper, as the ``election'' date becomes nearer the percentage of the votes to be taken by the parties changes as well. The last poll carried out between 4-8 November gave the following results:

    NUP 13.60 %
    DR 10.01
    RTP 6.79
    CLP 6.14
    PUM 1.78
    Mixed votes	42.50
    No Idea 13.40
    No vote 4.20
