    BRUSSELS - The European Commission proposed legislation on Wednesday that would slap a consumption tax on telecommunications services offered by foreign companies within the 15-nation European Union.

    LONDON - British Airways Plc declined comment on a newspaper report claiming it was in talks with Spanish airline Iberia about joining its proposed alliance with American Airlines.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission said on Wednesday it had cleared the acquisition of Germany's Magna Automotive Holding GmbH by TRW Inc, a U.S.- based firm which makes components and systens for the car and space industries.

    BRUSSELS - The European Commission asked the European Court on Wednesday to fine Germany and Italy for non compliance with EU environmental law.

    BRUSSELS - The European Union's plans for new euro coins have hit a series of snags, forcing a high-level experts group to go back to the drawing board.

    BRUSSELS - Fisheries Commissioner Emma Bonino and Russian Fisheries Minister Vladimir Sosno have agreed to negotiate a fishing agreement but set no starting date, a Commission official said on Wednesday.
