[01] Paiements en espèces : l'euro progresse
During the second business day of the new year the use of the euro
progressed according to plan. On average 40% of the transactions were
carried out in euro and 97% of ATMs were adapted to give euro. Citizens in
general have tried to use their remaining national currency notes and coins
and get change in euro during these first days. This is a clear indication
that they want to use the euro exclusively as soon as possible. Queues in
banks continue to be longer than usual but the situation in the retail
sector was normalised yesterday although the final test is expected on
Saturday. The enthusiasm of the European people for our new currency
continuous to be the main factor of success.
