FARMERS LATEST
Some of the roads under occupation by Greece's farmers have been freed up,
after being blocked off by agricultural vehicles for up to two weeks.
SIMITIS-CILLER/DUBLIN
Prime minister Kostas Simitis returned to Athens from Dublin Monday,
satisfied with the outcome of the EU summit in Ireland.
RIFKIND
The entry of CYPRUS into the EU appears to be on the right track. After a
recent visit to the island, British foreign secretary Malcolm Rifkind said
EU talks on Cypriot accession will begin shortly.
SPYRIDON,
Greek orthodox archbishop of America Spyridon celebrated his nameday by
saying mass.

And the traditional Christmas tree that lends seaonal cheer to central
Athens is UP and LIT UP.

In premier league play, Panathinaikos moves to within a game of first-place
Olympiakos. Pao whips Aek 2-nil, with two goals in 6 minutes in the second
half; while Olympiakos DROPS a 1- nothing decision to Veria.

In pro-basketball, it was all-star weekend, with the best Europeans up
against the best Americans in Greece.

And, finally today, Irini Skliva, the new Miss World, returned to Greece
for the first time since winning her crown last month.

ROBBERY

PERFECT crime, if a recent botched robbery is anything to go by. 58-year-
old nighwatchman Antonis Kondilakis was just settling into his graveyard
shift at an unemployment centre in Athens, when a voice behind him said,
"stick 'em up".
CYPRUS YIR II
War may have been avoided in the Aegean, but Turkish brutality resulted in
the deaths of three Greek-Cypriots this year.
Two were murdered by Turkish, and another by a Turkish mob, in the most
tragic displays of violence on the island since the Turkish invasion of
1974.
Olympics Athlets
The three Greek weight-lifters and the Greek gymnast who won at the
Atlanta Olympics have been named Greece's male athletes of the year.
