[02] Weather Forecast: Rain and storms on Tuesday

Cloud, rain and storms are forecast throughout the country on Tuesday, with snow falling on high ground in the centre and north of the country. Winds variable, moderate, turning very strong to gale force in the Aegean. In the north, temperatures will range from 3C to 13C; on the rest of the mainland and the Ionian from 9C to 19C; and in the Aegean islands from 11C to 20C. Rain and storms in Athens, gradually easing off, with temperatures from 13C and 19C. Showers in Thessaloniki, with temperatures from 8C to 12C.

[03] ASE follows European markets higher

Equity prices ended substantially higher the first trading session of the week following a similar trend in other European bourses on the Athens Stock Exchange on Monday.

The general index ended 1.22 percent higher at 2,796.96 points, after breaking the 2,800 barrier in midday trading, with turnover an improved 87.8 billion drachmas or 257.6 million euros.

The Textiles, Wholesale and Retail sectors scored the biggest percentage gains (4.31 percent, 3.56 percent and 2.57 percent, respectively), with only the Insurance sector suffering losses.

The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavy traded stocks ended 0.90 percent higher, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index rose 1.61 percent and the FTSE/ASE SmallCap 80 index jumped 2.35 percent.

Broadly, advancers led decliners by 296 to 42 with another 26 issues unchanged.
