  • [01] FM condemns Bhutto's assassination

Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis on Thursday condemned the assassination of former Pakistani prime minister and opposition leader Benazir Bhutto in a suicide bomb attack earlier in the day.

Bakoyanniss stressed that she was deeply shocked by the death of Benazir Bhutto, "a leading international personality who struggled steadfastly for democracy, peace, respect for human dignity and reconciliation in her country."

Extending her condolences to her family and to the families of all the victims of this assassination attack, Bakoyannis underlined that "Greece condemns the terrorist attack in the most categorical way that, just two weeks ahead of the Parliamentary elections in Pakistan, has led to this tragic loss."

Lastly, Bakoyannis said that "we are watching the events with great concern, at the same time expressing the wish and the hope that this country will follow the path towards the construction of a democratic regime. This will also constitute the sole vindication of the tragic sacrifice of Benazir Bhutto."

    [02] Surgeon visits Archbishop Christodoulos

Transplant surgeon Andreas Tzakis participated on Thursday in a luncheon given at the residence of Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Christodoulos for all his attending doctors, praising his clarity of mind and his strength and optimism.

"I admired the clarity of mind, the strength, the clarity of speech," doctor Tzakis said on leaving the Archbishop's residence, adding that "we had no problem with communication."

Tzakis saw the Archbishop and termed his visit a friendly one. Other attending doctors said that the state of the Archbishop's health remains crucial, but there is continuous observation and suitable information will be provided for any change.

The doctors said that the Archbishop did not dine with them, however he saw all of them in his room and spoke to them.
