  • [01] Papandreou chairs coordinating body

Main opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou chaired a meeting of the party's political coordinating body on Thursday, that will be convening again on January 3.

The agenda included a discussion on the issue of former culture ministry secretary general Christos Zachopoulos.

PASOK's spokesman Yiannis Raggousis said that the Zachopoulos issue was an "extremely political one that is not at all isolated," adding that "during the ministerial tenure of Costas Karamanlis at the culture ministry a system of corrupt people was established."

Raggousis further said that the Zachopoulos case is the most recent revelation of the activity of this system, while also accusing the government of "trying to paint the case with a pink colour" and terming this effort unacceptable.

    [02] Surgeon visits Archbishop Christodoulos

Transplant surgeon Andreas Jackis participated on Thursday in a luncheon given at the residence of Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Christodoulos for all his attending doctors, praising his clarity of mind and his strength and optimism.

"I admired the clarity of mind, the strength, the clarity of speech," doctor Jackis said on leaving the Archbishop's residence, adding that "we had no problem with communication."

Jackis saw the Archbishop and termed his visit a friendly one. Other attending doctors said that the state of the Archbishop's health remains crucial, but there is continuous observation and suitable information will be provided for any change.

The doctors said that the Archbishop did not dine with them, however he saw all of them in his room and spoke to them.
