Philip Gordon was in Athens on Friday in the context of visits to Greece
and Turkey through July 31, a State Department announcement issued on
Wednesday night said.
"Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip
H. Gordon will travel to Greece and Turkey July 25-31. In Athens,
Assistant Secretary Gordon will underscore U.S. support to senior
government officials as they undertake important reforms to restore
market confidence, fuel economic growth, and create a prosperous future
for their people. He will also discuss a broad range of foreign policy
issues with political party leaders and members of the business and
think tank communities," the announcement said.
The announcement continued that own July 29 Gordon will travel to Istanbul
"where he will meet with senior Turkish Government officials to discuss
the range of bilateral and global issues. Assistant Secretary Gordon
will pay a visit to the Halki Seminary and also attend a public municipal
iftar dinner in the Uskudar district".
Gordon also visited Cyprus on July 12-13.
[02] Coalition leaders to resume spending cut talks on Monday
AMNA/ Government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou on Thursday described
the meeting of the political party leaders backing the government as
"constructive", stressing that they all wish to contribute to the
efforts aimed at meeting the fiscal targets set and finding alternative
and fairer solutions.
The coalition leaders will meet again on Monday to agree on a new package
of measures for the next two years amounting to 11.5 billion euros.
