AMNA/ Prime minister Antonis Samaras met on Friday with the
representatives of the European Commission (EC), European Central Bank
(ECB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Troika, who briefed the
premier on their talks so far with various government ministers on the
course of the Greek fiscal adjustment programme.
Sources said that specific measures being mulled by the government were
not discussed during the premier's 90-minute meeting with EC Director
for the member states' economies Matthias Mors, ECB division chief
Klaus Masuch and IMF European Department deputy director Poul Thomsen,
as well as the IMF's permanent representative in Athens Bob Traa
[02] Suspected arsonist arrested for Hymettus fires
AMNA/ A 40-year-old man has been arrested by Athens police for allegedly
starting fires on three occasions on Hymettus Hill near the municipality
of Papagou, last month.
The alleged arsonist was arrested on Thursday for the fires on June 3,
5 and 22 atop Hymettus Hill, and will appear before an examining
[03] Greek banks' deposits down in June
AMNA/ Deposits in Greek banks fell further in June as the formation of
a new government failed to reverse a massive exit flow which began in
May, the Bank of Greece said on Thursday.
The central bank, in a monthly report, said that deposits by enterprises
and households in Greece banks fell to 150.6 billion euros at the end
of June, from 157.4 billion euros a month earlier. Bank deposits fell
by 15.4 billion euros in the two-month period from May to June, due to
political worries.
