[01] Parliament rejects opposition's call for a discussion over referendum
on 'small PPC'
The first summer section of the Parliament in an extraordinary session
on Friday rejected the proposal to convene a plenary parliament session
to discuss whether or not a referendum on "small PPC" should be held.
New Democracy and PASOK deputies voted against the proposal, while
opposition parties did not participate in the process.
The deputies of main opposition Radical Left Coalition SYRIZA party,
Independent Greeks (ANEL) and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE)
abstained from the session while the Golden Dawn and Democratic Left
(DIMAR) deputies denounced the process as invalid and left the meeting.
[02] One of the brightest full moons of the year on Saturday's night sky
A very bright full moon will appear in the sky on Saturday night. The
phenomenon will be repeated on August 10 with the biggest and brightest
full moon of the year as the moon will be at the closest distance
from Earth. A third bright full moon will appear in the night sky on
September 9.
The full moon differentiate in size and brightness because the orbit
of our satellite around our planet is elliptical. The moon will reach
its perigee, approximately (50,000 km closer to earth) than its apogee
(the longest distance from earth), on August 10.
Last year the 'super full moon' made earth's sattellite appearing 30
percent bigger an 14 percent brighter.
