  • [01] Erdogan's rhetoric undermines the Treaty of Lausanne, President Pavlopoulos says

The rhetoric of Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan directly or indirectly undermines the Treaty of Lausanne and the Greek-Turkish relations as well as the EU-Turkey relations," Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said on Tuesday at a ceremony for his declaration as honourary citizen of Edessa, northern Greece.

"Greece has always supported the constitutional legitimacy in Turkey; we wish to have good neighbourly relations. Greece is Turkey's gateway to Europe," he underlined and added: "That means that we respect both the history and the international law. And it is known that the Treaty of Lausanne finally and irrevocably has not only determined Greece's borders with Turkey but also Europe's borders with Turkey because Greece's borders are also EU borders, since according to the European law, the EU borders are also the borders of the member states."

Turkey, said Pavlopoulos, "must understand that the Treaty of Lausanne is an integral part of the international law and that it should always be respected and not be undermined."

Referring to Macedonia, he stressed that it was, it is and it will remain Greek and sent a message to Skopje, that "anyone that expresses irredentist claims will not join the European Union because they violate the European law itself."

[02] Two candidates for Rosco railways maintenance company

Italian railways Ferrovie dello Stato Italiano SpA and Skoda Transportation AS were the two investment groups which submitted expression of interest for the purchase of 100 pct stake of Rosco SA, the Greek railway rolling stock maintenance company, Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) said on Monday.

HRADF's advisors will evaluate, per terms and criteria stipulated in the Process Letter, the above Expressions of Interest and submit to HRADF's Board of Directors their recommendation as to which candidates qualify for the next phase, which includes the access to detailed information about the asset (virtual data room) and the terms of the transaction.

The deadline for the submission of binding offers is set for December 5, 2016.

[03] Tourism is the tiger of the Greek economy, says EC spokesman Schinas

The Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) aims at 9 million more tourists by 2021, as it was outlined in a PwC study presented in the 15th conference of SETE.

More specifically, arrivals are expected to reach 34.8 million from 26 million and revenues to exceed 20 billion euros. The contribution of tourism to the Greek economy will come to 44 billion euros while more than 1 million people will be employed in the tourism sector.

European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas stressed that tourism is "the tiger of the Greek economy." In 2026 the contribution to the country's GDP will exceed 22 percent, while 28 percent of the total workforce will be employed in the tourism sector.
