  • [01] Dragasakis: Positive decision at Eurogroup will send strong signal of stability

A positive decision for Greece at the Eurogroup meeting on Monday (Dec. 5) will send a strong signal of stability and hope in a climate of insecurity, government Vice-President Yiannis Dragasakis said in an article published in Efimeritha ton Syntakton on Saturday.

Dragasakis said any decision taken at the meeting will serve as a precedent for how Europe will deal in the future with the debt of any other member-state. He said the "obsession" of some parties to include the International Monetary Fund in the Greek program is causing uncertainty.

[02] Greek seamen announce new 48-hour strike as of Sunday

Greek seamen's federation announced a new 48-hour nationwide strike as of Sunday morning, following a meeting of their union earlier on Saturday.

The strike will affect all ship and ferry services and will expire on Tuesday morning. Seamen will also hold a protest rally and march outside the ministry of island policy where union members will seek a meeting with the minister to brief him on the issues affecting the sector.

"After taking into consideration the government's intransigent and uncompromising position, the management decided to escalate its struggle with a new 48-hour nationwide strike for all categories of ships which will begin on 06:01 of December 4, and end on December 6, at 06:00, with a view to escalating [our actions] further," the union said.
