  • [01] Germany's Steinmeier to visit Greece on Sunday, Monday

Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will pay an official visit to Greece on Dec. 4-5 (Sunday and Monday), the Greek foreign ministry announced.

On Sunday, Steinmeier and his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias will inaugurate the exhibition "Divided Memories, 1940-50" at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art at 12:45. The exhibition is organized jointly with the Goethe-Institut in Thessaloniki, the city's Jewish Museum and Berlin's Deutsches Historisches Museum.

In Athens, Steinmeier will meet with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos at 17:30 and then with Kotzias at 18:30, after which the two ministers will hold a joint press conference at around 19:15.

On Monday, the German minister will meet Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at 10:00 and the leader of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis at 13:15.

[02] Tsipras dismisses reports on snap elections

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras dismissed reports on possible snap elections saying they will be held in three years, as scheduled.

Asked by journalists in Abu Dhabi after the end of UNESCO's conference on protecting cultural heritage on the possinility of early elections, he commented on some countries which are scheduled to head to the polls soon and added: "The only country that will have elections in three years is Greece."

[03] Potami leader on Turkish provocations: Keep calm, set up national security council

Greece has to remain calm in the face of continued provocations by Turkish officials and prepare for any eventuality by setting up a national security council which will shape national policy on major issues, Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis said on Saturday, speaking to Flash96 radio station.

"I believe we must stay calm, because I hear a lot of jittery talk. Greece is not threatened, Greece remains a strong country and remains a country in the EU and NATO and therefore we must not create panic in society," Theodorakis said.

"Of course, we must be prepared on a national level. That is precisely why we proposed the creation of a National Security Council, where all the defining decisions for the country will be taken. National issues should not be handled solely by the party that governs. National issues must have majorities of 80 percent. We cannot panic because Erdogan makes a statement, but on the other hand we must not ignore it," he added.
