[02] Two days to the second round of Municipal and Prefectural elections

With two days to the second round of Municipal and Prefectural elections, the candidates of the second round have begun a race to secure alliances and consolidations that will lead to their election, while the parties have made their positions clear.

Meanwhile, New Democracy’s TV spot regarding Mr Giannis Tzanetakos’ candidacy for the Athens-Piraeus Prefecture has caused various comments, with the government spokesman Christos Protopapas stating that the spot proves the aesthetic difference between the New Democracy party and the Greek society.

From his side, New Democracy party spokesman Theodoris Rousopoulos spoke of different conceptions of dignity, criticizing the stance adopted against Messrs Giannis Tzanetakos, Panayiotis Psomiadis and Vasslis Papageorgopoulos.

At the same time, in an interview with NET, PASOK candidate Fofi Genimata stated that the spot did not only insult the youth and women, but mainly the 40% of the people who voted for her combination.

Regarding her refusal to participate in a public dialogue with Mr Giannis Tzanetakos she said that they had nothing in common to discuss, adding that he has other interests.

Regarding the TV spot, Mr Tzanetakos commented that it was successful since it had stirred discussion.

Finally, LAOS President Giorgos Karatzaferis from Thessaloniki yesterday called on his voters to vote for the New Democracy candidates in Athens and Piraeus. He also asked from his supporters to vote for Athens mayoralty candidate Dora Bakoyianni and not to support Mr Giannis Tzanetakos.

Finally, the Court of First Instance announced yesterday the final results of the first round of the Municipal and Prefectural elections. For the Athens – Piraeus Prefecture Mrs Fofi Genimata received 657,684 votes and Mr Giannis Tzanetakos 440,646 votes. Regarding the Athens mayoralty, Mrs Dora Bakoyianni received 161,329 votes and Mr Christos Papoutsis 88,740 votes.

Before the examining magistrate Leonidas Zervobeakos yesterday, Mrs Ageliki Sotiropoulou rejected all charges brought against her regarding her participation in N17 terrorist organisation’s actions.

Those charges concerned her participation in the attacks against British Brigadiers Steven Saunders, New Democracy MP Giannis Palaiokrasas, during which a passer by by the name of Thanos Axarlian was killed and in the bomb explosion in Piraeus during which her ex-husband and N17 member Sawas Xiros was injured.
