    A variable weather is forecast in Attica and the rest of Greece today, with northerly, moderate to very strong winds. The temperature in Athens will range from 11 to 18 C and in Thessaloniki from 9 to 17 C.

    [02] 10 more European countries to join the EU

    Athens is ready to hold the European summit meeting dedicated to the accession of the 10 new countries to the European Union, which will take place tomorrow. Meanwhile, European leaders and the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan are arriving in Athens today and tomorrow.

    Prime Minister Costas Simitis is meeting with the European Commission President Romano Prodi at 19:00 today and with the head of the Convention for the Future of Europe Valery Giscard d' Estaing at 20:00. At 21:00 he will host EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Defence Policy a working dinner.

    At the same time the security authorities are on the alert for the safe arrival of the European leaders, while schools and the Civil Service will remain closed tomorrow. All demonstrations are forbidden as of 15:00 today until Thursday midnight along the streets from which the European delegations will pass, as well as around the hotels that will host the leaders.

    Demonstrations are allowed to take place only along Vasilisis Sofias avenue and at Syntagma Square.

    The organization Action Thessaloniki 2003 is organizing a rally at Omonia and then a march to Syntagma square at 18:00 today.

    Finally, the General Confederation of Greek Workers is staging an anti war rally at Syntagma square tomorrow.

    [03] Greece mourns the death of 21 teenagers

    Dimitris Dollas, the driver of the timber lorry that caused the tragic accident at Tembi valley beneath Mount Olympus two days ago, resulting in the death of 21 teenagers, is facing charges of intended manslaughter. Tomorrow, he will testify before the Public Prosecutor.

    The children's school, as well as all schools in their prefecture will remain closed, while flags will be flying at half mast all week.

    Finally, government spokesman Christos Protopapas stated that the government would take all measures to discover the reasons that led to that tragedy.

    [04] Denktash blamed by the Security Council

    The unanimous resolution of the United Nations Security Council that passed yesterday, offers its full support to the Annan plan for the Cyprus issue, describing it as the sole basis for the continuation of negotiations between the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots and holds the Turkish Cypriot representative Rauf Denktash responsible for the collapse of the negotiations at the Hague.
