    A mainly fine and hot day is forecast, with rain and storms later in the afternoon, in central and northern Greece.

    Temperatures in Athens will range from 25 to 36 degrees centigrade, and in Thessaloniki from 23 to 34 degrees.

    [02] Passengers safely transferred off sinking tourist vessel

    Twenty-five passengers on a small tourist vessel, the "Angelika" ' which crashed into a reef off the island of Paxi this afternoon ' were safely transferred off the sinking boat. Among the passengers were a number of elderly people and foreign tourists.

    [03] 2 people killed in small plane crash near Corinth

    Two people aboard a small private airplane were killed this afternoon, when it crashed near Corinth. According to eye-witnesses, the plane crashed into an abandoned building and burst into flames.

    [04] PM visits museum in Ancient Olympia

    Prime Minister Costas Simitis today visited the museum at Ancient Olympia, which ' following major renovation works ' will be converted into an Olympic Games museum. In statements made to the media, Simitis said the 2004 Athens Olympics will be exceptional, because they will highlight the history of the games and their relationship with Greece

    [05] Pasok prepares for PM's visit to Thessaloniki

    In the presence of the ruling Pasok party's Central Committee secretary Michalis Chrysohoidis, the informal staff body met today to discuss the Prime Minister's upcoming visit next month to the opening of the International Trade Fair in Thessaloniki. Speaking to reporters prior to the meeting, Development Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos described Simitis' visit to Thessaloniki as being of special political significance, because it marks the beginning of the counter-attack, planned by the party and its government.

    [06] Russian businessman Gusinsky arrested in Greece

    Former Russian media magnate Vladimir Gusinsky, who lost his business after falling foul of the Kremlin, was arrested at Athens airport on an international warrant, Greek police said today. Gusinsky, 51, arrived on a flight from Tel Aviv last Thursday, carrying Russian and Israeli passports

    Three British soldiers were killed and another seriously wounded in the Iraqi city of Basra today. Locals said a British vehicle had come under fire from another car, veered off the road and crashed

    [08] One militant killed in Israeli raid on Nablus

    Palestinian medics said today that only one Palestinian militant had been killed when Israeli troops opened fire at a hospital in the West Bank city of Nablus yesterday. Initially, witnesses had said that three militants were killed.
