    Sunny and pleasant weather is expected with clouds building up later in the day in the Ionian region. Temperatures in Athens will range from 13-26 C and in Thessaloniki from 11-22 C.

    [02] Incentives to private businesses

    Additional incentives will be given to private businesses that hire employees according to a new bill being prepared by the government that will be submitted to Parliament at the end of the month.

    [03] A new week of strikes

    Beginning tomorrow and for three days striking will be Athens and Piraeus hospital doctors while a country-wide strike has been scheduled for Thursday and Friday. For the fifth week, university professors and technological school instructors are continuing their mobilizations. The University of Crete however, has decided to postpone the walk out in order for negotiations to take place. In primary and secondary education, a 48 hour strike has been scheduled by teachers on the 3rd and 4th of November. Beginning tomorrow and for four days, archaeological sites will be closed while municipal employees are striking on Thursday and Friday. Finally, agronomists will decide whether to continue their mobilizations after a meeting of their union tomorrow.

    [04] Pasok secretary-M. Chrisohoidis optimistic of Pasok victory

    In an interview to the Sunday 'VIMA' newspaper, the secretary of the Pasok party, Mihalis Chrisohoidis expressed the optimism that his party will win the next elections and criticized the New Democracy party of attempting to defraud the Greek people with indefinite promises.

    [05] ND leader expresses support for Turkeys EU accession

    During a speech in Ankara at the governing party's convention, the leader of the ND party, Konstantinos Karamanlis spoke in favor of Turkey's European orientation. Mr. Karamanlis spoke about the Cyprus issue and Greek-Turkish relations underlining that their normalization would be based on international law and treaties.

    [06] At least 6 killed in Baghdad by suicide bomber

    A suicide car bomber killed at least six Iraqis and injured dozens in an attack at a Baghdad hotel used by U.S. officials today, shaking buildings and shattering windows blocks away.

    Iraq's police chief said Al Qaeda or Saddam Hussein loyalists probably masterminded the bombing.

    [07] Palestinian PM hints will quit after caretaker rule

    Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurie suggested today he would quit next month after agreeing to head a 30-day caretaker cabinet, stoking uncertainty over a U.S.-backed plan for peace with Israel.

    After three days of fighting that killed eight Palestinians and left more than 1,000 homeless, Israel withdrew most forces from the large Gaza Strip refugee camp of Rafah today, three days after they swooped on suspected arms-smuggling tunnels.

    Palestinian militants operating elsewhere in Gaza fired three Qassam rockets into the nearby western Negev desert region of Israel. No casualties or serious damage were reported.

    A team of Italian doctors has separated four-month-old Greek twin girls from Thessaloniki joined at the temple in a rare 12-hour operation, according to medical authorities today.

    [09] Hospital fire kills 30 mental patients in Belarus

    A psychiatric patient set fire to a hospital in western Belarus today and at least 30 patients died in the blaze before firefighters managed to evacuate the building, the Emergencies Ministry said. One patient was missing, and emergency workers were combing through the ruins of the hospital, which was almost completely destroyed in the blaze.
