Bakoyanni expressed the view that the message of the games should be more friendly, encouraging and optimistic, in order to ensure the attendance of Athenians, while Venizelos clarified that the event involved the whole of society and any caustic comments were uncalled for.(13/10/2003 8:58:00 μμ) [06] Tensions escalate between Greek Church and PatriarchateTensions have escalated still further between the Church of Greece and the Orthodox Patriarchate in Constantinople, as both sides dig in their heels over the thorny issue of control over certain territories in northern Greece. Yesterday, the Patriarch sent a clear message to all those who doubt his jurisdiction, saying the disputed areas belonged to the Patriarchate and would remain under its control.
