Gennadeion Benefit: To benefit the Gennadius Library and celebrate the legacy of Hellenism to the world of music, famed composer Stavros Xarhakos will debut at Carnegie Hall on April 29, 1998, conducting the State Orchestra of Hellenic Music with his composition, "Ode: A Musical Journey through Hellenism." A dinner the night before at the St. Regis will honor Maestro Xarhakos as well as Maestro Dino Anagnost, Music Director and Conductor of the famed "Little Orchestra Society" at Lincoln Center.

The State Orchestra of Hellenic Music, founded in 1994 under the inspirational leadership of Maestro Xarhakos, focuses on Greek music from Byzantine times to the present. Proceeds will benefit the Gennadius Library in Athens, a treasure house of books and archives dedicated to the preservation of Hellenism.
