[01] PM Samaras meets with German Foreign Minister Steinmeier
ANA-MPA - Greece's situation has shown some improvement, German Foreign
Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said after meeting with Prime Minister
Antonis Samaras on Friday at the Maximos mansion.
Steinmeier noted however that problems remain, and referred to the
youth unemployment adding that the 2013 was a good year for tourism
which gives some hope.
"We had a long conversation with Samaras and (Government Vice President
and Foreign Minister) Evangelos Venizelos. I ascertained that the
government is determined to continue on the same course, regardless of
the cost and the dangers," said the German Foreign minister.
However, he underlined that the reforms course must be followed until the
end, adding that with determination and boldness the results will be good.
"I chose this period to come to Greece in order to express our respect to
Greece's efforts and our support to the Greece's EU presidency", adding
that "the Europarliament elections as well as the banking unionwill be
held during Greece's presidency".
Concluding, Steinmeier said that "what will be accomplished will be not
only in Greece's but also in Europe's interest" he noted and said that
he will have a series of meetings in Athens with representatives of the
opposition parties in order to have a better picture of the conditions
as well as of Greece's political situation.
